03/01/2024

3D text Illustrator is one of the important features in the graphic design industry. However, not everyone knows how to create 3D text in Adobe Illustrator. Therefore, the process of creating 3D text in AI faces many difficulties.

Understanding that, the article below Vietbay will guide you how to solve the problem in the simplest way, let’s explore.

Step 1: Find your font

Select the Type tool and find the Character section of the Properties panel. Click the Find More tab in the Fonts drop-down menu to search Adobe Fonts. When you find a font you like, click the cloud icon to sync it, then type a letter. We liked Grover Heavy Regular for our design.

Step 2: Enter the third dimension

Click the Selection tool then choose Effect > 3D and Materials > Extrude & Bevel. We kept the default depth at 50pt but you can adjust to your desired level.

Step 3: Add some texture

Select the Materials tab, scroll to the All Materials section, and choose a material you like. Then, further down, customize the Paint Color swatches and fine-tune the other settings to get the look you want.

Step 4: Play with lighting

Select the Lighting tab and experiment with the settings.

Step 5: Turn it around

Drag along the crossbars of the track cube to rotate around the x-axis or y-axis. We dragged along the outer wheel to rotate the letter around the z-axis.

Step 6: Duplicate and adjust

Hold Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS) and drag the letter to duplicate it. Double-click the letter to change it and use the track cube to change its position. Continue to duplicate and adjust letters until your design is complete.
Make a fashion statement with your 3D textured design.
